Last week I had the priviledge to see the Yves Saint Laurent movie (before the official release ;) and Loved it.
Loved it and felt a lot of things..
Djeeeezzz, don’t even know where to start!
Yves.. What a guy, what a life, what a pioneer, what a legacy..
I was watching Perfection vs Destruction,
Love vs Hate, Loyalty vs Mad Betrayal and all kinds of subliminal messages in the film.
You gotta see it.
Being reminded to the fact that he was also a Pioneer when it comes to models of color made me feel proud
The pictures above show the gorgeous Mounia from Martinique..
Not only one of the top Black models in the late ‘70s but also a great inspiration to Yves Saint Laurent.
His first ‘Black muse’…
In WWD (2008) she told how the YSL ‘Porgy and Bess’ collection made her a celebrity. “Catherine Deneuve stood up and started clapping!”
"The people were shouting ‘Bravo, Yves Saint Laurent!’ and ‘Brava, Mounia!’ He took me in his arms, and we kissed. This for me was history This was the first time that a black model had arrived in haute couture."
Goosebumbs when I read this..
YLS featured many models of color in his show through the years, from Iman to Naomi Campbell, Katouche Niane, Dalma Callado, Sonia Cole & many more..
For that, amongst other things, I applaud him
(The music in this film by the way mesmorized me from the very start.. When I heard a horn come in, it went right through my, I’m not even sure! Heart/ Soul/ Something!! I briefly thought it might be trumpet player Ibrahim Maalouf.. And it was..
This guy nailed it, Seriously.. The entire soundtrack is beautiful! Another good reason to see this film.
